John 10:9: Jesus said, "I Am The Door."
I AM the Door, John 10:1-10. Jesus said, “I AM the Bread of Life”--our source, sustainer, and satisfaction of life. I AM the Light of the World--our giver of knowledge, hope, and direction.
Chapter 10 is about the Great Shepherd. It focuses on the image of sheep, sheepfolds, and shepherds; but today I want to look at Jesus as “The DOOR.”
There are three doors spoken of here. 1. “the door into the sheepfold” (v. 1) The sheepfold is talking about Israel. Psalm 100
2. “the door of the sheep” (v. 7) God frequently compared His relationship to Israel to that of a shepherd and his sheep in the Old Testament. He was their Shepherd.
3. The door of salvation (v. 9). Christ is the only Door. “I Am the door.” He did not say I am “a” door but “the.”
a. There is no other door to forgiveness.
Christ is the door to forgiveness.
Those who trust Him exit condemnation (John 3:17).
Those who trust Him enter justification (Romans 5:1).
b. There is no other door to new life.
Christ is the door to life.
Those who trust Him exit spiritual death (Ephesians 2:1).
Those who trust Him enter new life (2 Corinthians 5:17).
c. There is no other door to Heaven.
Christ is the door to Heaven.
Those who trust Him exit the road to hell (John 3:36).
d. There is no other door to eternal life.
Christ is the door to eternal life.
Those who trust Him enter eternal life (John 5:24).
Have you entered eternal life?
Eternal life is a present possession (1 John 5:12).
We can know we have eternal life now (1 John 5:13).
e. Many try to find other doors.
Cultic doors: false Christ (v. 8), false doctrines.
f. All of these fail: Christ alone is the door (Acts 4:12) (1 Timothy 2:5).
4. The door is open
“If any man enter in”
This speaks of God’s grace.
God has an open door for our salvation.
Christ is the door for all who believe (v. 9).
The invitation is open to all.
Another way to say “whosoever” (John 3:16) (Romans 10:13).
This door opens for all who wish to enter.
It opens for all sinners (Romans 3:23) (5:8).
It opens for all who come to Jesus (John 6:37). But this door will not always be open. One day it will close (Isaiah 55:6). Enter the door now while it is still open! (2 Corinthians 6:2).
5. The door of protection Those who enter this door find salvation. “shall be saved”
6. The door of Provisions Those who enter this door are satisfied. “shall go in and out, and find pasture” Two wonderful provisions of Christ Freedom; “Shall go in and out” Food; “and find pasture” This is satisfaction. Christ provides adequately for His sheep. (Philippians 4:19) (Psalms 23:1)
